Print Collateral for Jessica

Another significant step in the Business of Art trajectory is to develop an “identity” for the artist This isn’t a pen name or made up alter ego, but rather the beginning of an identification process for the artist, an identification of “who” they are and “what” they’re about (at least this is how I break it down when I ‘m working with paying clients!).

Again, Jessica made this surprisingly easy by having given her whole “reason for painting” a lot of thought and also by being wonderfully open and trusting in sharing with me the simple pure joy she takes in drawing and painting (read her Artist Statement if you haven’t yet).

She also was able to easily deal on the first productive step of this identification which is to settle on a graphic presentation–logo, font, colors– to utilize consistently in all of her materials for the time being. She put this post up on the original blog we started over on blogspot in response to my “assignment”:

I translated her “sketch” into the logo you see above on this site now, utilizing some basic online resources to professionalize the product, including creating a file that can be scaled to suit any future print marketing need, and that be easily referred to as a reference for consistency when creating new marketing materials of any kind.

Check out her print collateral for the weekend, both of which arrived today. Business cards featuring the same file used on the site, and beautiful prints, courtesy of Mike Brown and Moebius Color again, of Jessica’s Face painting.

We only printed 30 of these for sale at The Frame Maker booth at ArtWalk this weekend. Jessica will sign and number them, the proceeds going to fund her new career as a fine artist.

Remember the original 5′ x 9′ painting will be on display this weekend in Jessica’s booth (#769), but its already been purchased by the Provost’s Office at SDSU as part of the university’s permanent collection. Come support Jessica and the Business of Art Scholarship project this weekend sponsored by The Frame Maker, Mission Federal ArtWalk and the San Diego Finishing School.
